2d-x Interview: Online TBT might not suck + SNES rosters

Read the rest of the interview by Jeff Wilson here

In terms of customization, will gamers be able to tweak teams as they see fit, or will they have to have to earn points over the course of a season to apply to abilities?
All abilities in Throwback are true to the SNES version and players will not be able to edit them nor will they increase/decrease over a season. Earning points over a season is a good idea though – perhaps the next time around.

All the stuff you didn't like about Kickoff? They're not doing that here. If you want to play against people online without having to spend 40 hours a week to make your team awesome, then you're in luck!

Will Tecmo Bowl Throwback have any secret characters or teams?
Well, I’ll tell you this – all the SNES stats are in the game so you really just need to know where to look to find what you’re looking for.

Either the attributes are exactly the same as the 1993 season or else you have the chance to unlock them at some point. Dibs on Rodderic Hoodson.

PS, if we want to specifically ask the producers of Tecmo something about the game, apparently it's as easy as asking e-mail the PR department.

Why do I feel like I thought I read that it will be completely customizable; with the ability to change team names, players names, and attributes? I'm way off on this obviously, from reading that interview, correct?

Perhaps offline play will be customizable with online play being set. Realistically, that's best case scenario if so.

The allure of the original Tecmo Bowl for SNES was its use of NFL teams and players – something this game lacks. However, you can change the team and player names, so it'll be interesting to see if the hardcore Tecmo community which has kept abreast of all the roster changes since the game's release back in '93 switches over to Throwback.

However, this statement, from the game informer wondering how the tecmo community will feel - thread seems to claim the opposite.

So do we think that team names, and player names will be customizable, but just not their attributes?

First reaction, royally bummed. After some thought, might not be bad at all. Finding which teams are what might be part of the fun!

Ah, this is excellent news. The only way it could've been better is if they used SNES as their engine and NES as their rosters.

Yep. I'd greatly prefer the 1991 roster, but a useable roster right out of the box is going to be nice. A decent roster without the ability to edit is much preferable to the broken roster and inane editing that Kickoff offered.
