Movie Talk (No Spoilers Allowed)

Postby fatcheerleader on Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:18 pm

I thought I'd get a thread started just to chat about movies, dvds, trailers, whatever. Please don't spoil movies for others. If you do feel the need, at least give us a warning and maybe make your font color invisible (match the background) so people can choose to read your post or not. I'll kick off.

Law Abiding Citizen = B+
I like Gerard Butler but Jamie Foxx bothers me. The movie was pretty cool if you like action and suspense. Sure, it was a little far fetched but it's a movie and that's what they do sometimes.

The Damned United = tba
It's a look at Brian Clough's 44 day reign as the coach of Leeds United. I think it's a documentary. It's on my coffee table waiting for me.

The Boondock Saints 2 - All Saints Day = B-
Like most sequels, it falls down. They took about ten years off before making a sequel then they get almost everyone back including Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, Billy Connolly and director Troy Duffy. Even smaller characters from the original are back and it's funny to see how ten years has changed them. The only exception is the absence of Willem Dafoe which in my opinion was a huge loss. Now here's the thing, and it's a weird thing, Flanery has had so much plastic surgery and from what I've googled it's gone bad. He's one of several Hollywood people in a huge lawsuit against a hack of a doctor. Anyway, he looks slim like always but his head and face are swollen and it's as if his lips and tongue have been damaged too. I spent the majority of the movie fixated on him and his deformities. I couldn't believe it was him and at times it didn't even sound like him. I'd love to see if anyone else had the same problem. It ruined the movie for me.

Boondock Saints II? That just seems like it would be awful!!!!

Best awful movie of all time? Death Wish III.

If you ever have the time, watch Death Wish I-III in order. You can watch the textbook example of a someone decent movie going to a somewhat questionable movie going to completely batshit craziness. Saying that Death Wish III even has a plot is an insult to plots. Absolutely fucking brilliant.

Sorry, I took "hot as lead" like a bullet meaning cool. Sorry, I'm fat. I haven't seen "The Ugly" but you're dead right about "Be Cool" as garbage. It was painful.
"Ishtar" is considered by most to be the Worst Movie Ever in regards to money spent, flop in ticket sales, big name cast for it's time, horrible idea all the way around.
I'm going with "The Druids" with Christopher Lambert. God awful. It was like they said, "Let's make a cheaper Braveheart!" Huge stinker.

I think Eyes Wide Shut was the one bad Kubrick film. It's a shame such a great movie maker went out on that.

Didn't get the hype about Hangover. I thought it was ok, not great. Zombieland was a really funny movie, much better than the Hangover. Still not great, though. I would go so far as to say I have not seen a great comedy that was made in the past decade. Little Miss Sunshine came out in 2006 and that is supposed to be really good, but I didn't see it. Plus Steve Carell is in it and I hate him. The last great comedy was probably The Big Lebowski in 1998. Before that was The Birdcage in 1996. Then there are a bunch in the early '90s, too numerous to do the research.

The Truman Show came out in 1998 and that was great, but a lot of people seem to not consider it a comedy. Which is a shame because it was really funny.

Thumbs up to everything else on Elway's lists except Harry Potter (I actually fell asleep during Goblet of Fire, which my gf dragged me to).

Speaking of which, my gf thinks The Spirit is the worst movie she ever saw; I dragged her to that. It did suck, but I don't think I would say it was worst all-time.

I would add the Bourne Trilogy to Elway's list. I know some people are anti-Matt Damon but I love those films and can watch them over and over.

Green Zone = A
I liked it a lot. No, it's not like the Bourne films. Critics calling it Bourne4 are ignorant. It's more like Three Kings, The Kingdown, or Black Hawk Down than it is the Bourne's. I also don't get my panties in a bunch like some do about Hollywood shoveling their liberal agenda down my throat. Maybe it's anti war, maybe it's anti Bush, but it's really more about the absence of WMDs, which whether you're left or right is hard to deny. And, if you like technology in action films like Patriot Games or Enemy of the State, you will love this film.

Remember, as always, I'm easy to please.
