TSB 2006-2007 preseason rom (Better late than Never Edition)
First Annual Knobbe.org official collaborative rom
Sept 13, 2006

Rosters, sim data, and plays as accurate as preseason allows....which makes things more fun anyway.
Rosters are "original stylee" and play mods have not been included
Artwork is courtesy of GRG and JG Games

Given there are 32 teams, there are three roms so every team can play each other
The rom names and background screen are how you can tell them apart.

2006 "green" is missing Miami, Cleveland, San Francisco, and Chicago
2006 "brown" is missing Cincinatti, Baltimore, Carolina, and Jacksonville
2006 "blue" is missing Detroit, San Diego, Houston, and Arizona

I was pretty much just the "producer" of the rom which means that a lot of the work was done by others.
Thanks go to the following without whom this rom wouldn't be possible

- Todd Weinzierl (todd_m6d) for putting together all the player info and his awesome box and cart art work
- Drummer4god who came up with the original 2006 rosters
- The Mikiac for all the ratings work on the players which will be used in the famous meatspin players club
- Gripsmoke for the linebacker ratings
- Lightning Larry for the last 4 teams given Tecmo only lets you have 28
- The Ex-burgler for inspiring me to get this put all together
- JGgames and Sblueman for the artwork of the "green" rom
- GRG and Elway7 for the artwork of the "brown" rom
- GRG for the artwork of the "blue" rom
- Bad_Al for his awesome TSB Tool and Jstout who's hands are in everyone's work
- Bruddog for his "HACK PACK" which saved me a ton of time
- Emuware, maker of the TSB Manager and the grandfather of change
- all the rom makers at the Repository, in 6 years this is actually my first one. I would guess this production to be 30-40 man hours
- everyone who posts at the Tecmo Repository given that's what makes this all worthwile

Enjoy!

Great Job!

Postby detersm on Sat Sep 16, 2006 11:54 am

Best 06 Rom out there, my friend. Especially making the Steelers D rule the Earth! Polamalu and Porter are outscoring my opponents themselves with all the safeties and pick returns. :D

Personally, I would have made a few of the LBs faster. It's more fun to rush in for sacks and stops for a loss than it is to sit back with DBs and guard Receivers.

Also, I'd have lowered some of the QB's PC and PS. Even the backups in this league are good enough to stomach.

Thanks for a great Rom!

It's obvious you used Drummer4gods rom as your starter rom, which is fine since a community rom, but you should probably give him credit for his work.

Other than that it shares some of the same problems are drummers roms. Misspelled players (Randy McMichael, Michael Jenkins, Santonio Holmes etc) and alot of the running backs are just wrong. They have HB1 and HB2 starting at the same time. Seattle for example.

I was not aware of that. I had the rom e-mailed to from todd_m6d and i just assumed he came up with that. I'll make a note.

I'll take any more misspellings, jersey numbers, or starters.
I won't take any ratings or any trades/cuts since week 1 for now.

some changes that should be made to the eagles...

1. RB Bruce Perry was cut in pre-season. He should be replaced by Correll Buckhalter who should be the eagles #2 running back.

2. On the O-Line, Winston Justice should be replaced by William Thomas (formerly know as Tre Thomas) - Thomas has been the Eagles starting tackle for over 5 years and is in no danger of losing his job.

Misspellings

DeShaun Foster, DeAngelo Williams, Rickey Proehl, Santonio Holmes, Antwaan Randle El, Randy McMichael, Torry Holt, Marc Bulger, Michael Clayton, Anthony Becht, Cadillac Williams

Trent Dilfer is number 12 Antonio Bryant 81, Laurence Maroney 39

The Colts should be 3 wide formation

And of course the runningback thing.

As Rod already stated...
Stokley is injured, the colts are using 2 TE, not 3 wide.

ARI & JAX = 3 wide
IND & NE = 2 TE
rest = 2 RB
Best place for depth charts

I hate my helmet logos on the blue rom, yuck.

Yes but on the rom they are in a 2 back formation with Addai and Rhodes as the runningbacks. Which is really inaccurate, the Colts always have 1 back. 2TE is limited in this game, but even a 3 wide formation with Ben Utecht as the 3rd receiver would make more sense.

I believe that sometimes you guys all forgot that this is Tecmo Super Bowl, which no matter how much we pimp it out and update it, is still an 8 bit game from 1991.

In real life, the Colts are going to run a lot of 3-4 wr sets and a lot of two te sets and rarely, if ever, have Addai and Rhodes in the backfield at the same time.

With all that being said, Addai and Rhodes are splitting carries and the three biggest receiving threats who aren't rbs are Harrison, Wayne, and Dallas Clark. Thus, putting all these guys in as starters given and giving Addai and Rhodes two runs a piece seemed the logical thing to do. Setting up one of the running backs as a WR or TE to reflect what might be a more popular formation seemed silly to me, especially since the computer isn't going to swap the guys automatically. It's not like you can't just swap in Stokely or Utecht at any time.

In the case of Ottis Anderson/David Meggett and Kevin Mack/Eric Metcalf it's probably the case where these scatbacks/returners were:

1. Not typically in the same backfields as the starters
2. Not fullbacks in real life
3. Probably were third down receiving threats out of the backfield.

The other teams:
- Patriots: Same deal as the Colts with the splitting rbs plus TSB doesn't have 2 TE formation
- Saints: Really could have gone standard formation here but given the unknown WR situation at the beginning of the year and the fact they would probably roll out Reggie Bush as a WR a la old school Marshall Faulk, I decided to roll with 1 rb, 3 wrs though bush has two rushing plays and is a receiver on every passing play
- Redskins: Technically they use a FB but it's tough to keep either Randle-EL or Antonio Bryant off the field
- Cardinals: definite oversite by me especially given Bryant Johnson is slated as a starter
- Jaguars: agreed

[color=black]First of all, HUGE thanks to Rod and the whole gang who got this 2006-07 version to fly...AWESOME guys! I like the option of having the 3 different versions (so that nobody's favorite team gets left out), but I myself am partial to the [color=green]GREEN version's teams.

I noted many errors (mostly uniform numbers) in the GREEN version. They are listed below. (I don't know if these errors are also present in the BLUE or BROWN versions...I only checked the GREEN version.)

There were some roster changes, too, but I'm not listing them since you didn't want them at this time. Again, the errors above are really petty I realize, but since you asked...

It's not a popular formation, it's their starting formation.

especially since the computer isn't going to swap the guys automatically. It's not like you can't just swap in Stokely or Utecht at any time.

I was actually suggesting changing the plays to reflect the formation There are only 2 plays out of the 2 TE formation, but there are plenty of 3 wide receiver plays to come up with a good playbook.

I believe that sometimes you guys all forgot that this is Tecmo Super Bowl, which no matter how much we pimp it out and update it, is still an 8 bit game from 1991.

I'm not sure what you mean, I'm not suggesting anything that can't be done with Tecmo super bowl manager.

Anyway I don't want you to think i'm trashing your roms, they are high quality overall. Just thought I'd try to help, you see to disagree, and that's fine, I can always change stuff myself.

I appreciate the feedback though I don't want to get into an argument over any of this stuff because there is no way it can be right, which is what I was trying to say. Tecmo cannot account for the dynamic situation that is the Colts nor can it cater to everyone's expectation of this rom.

If it's 3 wr, then it doesn't sim right
If it's 3 wr with a rb as a wr, then i have a rb in the wrong spot
If it's 2 rb then it's not the right formation.

- As I stated before, my main focus with the Colts was to split carries between Addai and Rhodes.
- Plays and starters matter for simming
- If you're playing man vs man you will change playbooks and players anyway
- when it's all said and done, formation doesn't affect anything

Thus, feel free to bring up anything as it's painfully obvious from these replies that I spend way more time than is necessary to weigh the pros and cons. However don't expect me to change everything that everyone suggests as it's also painfully obvious that not everyone's opinion is the same.
